Himeji
Himeji is considered one of the best feudal castles in Japan - built as a fort in the early 1300s, it became a castle in the 1600s. It survived WWII bombings of the city, as well as an earthquake in 1995.
Amazing fact: In 1956, the entire thing was dismantled, sections repaired or replaced, and put back together again. Took 8 years.
